Maine imports much of its power from outside the state, and almost all of this electricity is transmitted and distributed by foreign corporations. It’s an extractive business model, taking over $200 million from Maine’s economy annually for corporate profits.

At the same time, crucial decisions about our electrical grid are being made in far away corporate boardrooms. These decisions aren’t being made on the basis of what’s best for Maine, but instead what’s best for boosting quarterly returns and building value for corporate shareholders.

Our Power supports public and cooperative energy systems owned and operated by Mainers. We believe decisions about Maine’s grid should be driven by Maine’s needs, while the hundreds of millions in profit currently siphoned out should remain in-state.
