Maine’s for-profit utilities (CMP and Versant) charge Mainers 49% more on average than consumer-owned utilities. Mainers pay the 10th highest residential electricity rates in the nation. CMP hiked their delivery rate 11.5% in August 2021 while Versant’s rate rose 17.5% in November 2021 (now they want a 30% increase in 2023). Mainers would save over $9 billion with the nonprofit Pine Tree Power company ($375/year net savings for the average customer from day 1).
